Jillian's Military Event Impressions

Family. It is something that, no matter what, in some way shape or form, is taken for granted. We know they will always be there for us and that they will always have our back, but the simple words "thank you" never seem to leave our mouths. It is as though their love and support has become nothing more than an expectation. Imagine… what if one of your loved ones was taken away from you for 6 months, 9 months, or even a year. What would you do? Would you then realize their importance, or maybe think twice before fighting over something silly like getting what you want? 

Both this past Monday and Tuesday my mind was opened up to a whole new world. The Varsity Girls performed at two military events. Monday night was for a fundraiser and was open to those who had family overseas or had died over seas. My eyes kept scanning the room, looking around at all the little kids and their single parent, or even just their grandparents who step into the roles of mom and dad. It was so sad to witness and to think of how lucky we are to not have to go through that pain. 

Tuesday night rolled around and what was originally just going to be a rehearsal night turned into another opportunity to perform for military families. The only difference was that these families were not going to be in pain much longer for at any moment their loved ones from overseas would step foot through the doors. Here there were many children as well. One little boy came up to me after our performance and said "My daddy is coming home tonight!" And when I asked if he was excited he said "Obviously!" as though I was asking the dumbest question ever created. I couldn't help but smile at that moment.

As the soldiers poured into the room the four of us girls stood there in tears watching the families jumped on their loved ones. It was such a beautiful site. I then remembered that the woman running the event said that they had left back in January... that is nearly a year. That is what made me so sad to believe that these families went without their mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, nieces and nephews for such a long time. But then I smiled thinking to myself… They would be home for the holidays, what a wonder thought.

So the next time you get into a fight with mom and dad, or even mom and dad, when you get impatient with your children. Please think of how lucky you are to see them every day and be in full contact with them. And just tell them you love them because they are not something that should ever be taken for granted.

The Varsity Girls Perform for Soldiers and Their Families

On Monday and Tuesday of this week, The Varsity Girls took part in some very special events for members of the military and their families.  Check back as the girls will reflect on what the events meant to them.

The one thing I can honestly say I have never had until now. You see music to me is not a hobby it is honestly a lifestyle. It is what I live, breathe and sleep and when a pen is in my hand it is as though the words just come to me. I do not just hear the lyrics in my head, but I feel the rhythm of the music that goes along with it. Along with that there is a melody that grasps all of my attention. 

I remember one time I was in church. (You see I went to a catholic high school and church was part of a weekly routine.) Anyways, I was sitting there listen to Father speak, he spoke of many things, but one that caught my ears almost instantly. He said, "You must wash your hands free of all sin," and with that I heard a full song in my head. I ran out of the room into a class room and started writing. "Washing my hands free of you and all of the things you put me through." With that my original "Say Goodbye" was written.

So many different things inspire me: whether it is a personal experience or and experience of a friend. No matter the situation, I will interpret it through words, melody and song. Writing to is not just the lifestyle of which I speak… it is something that lives deep in my soul. My heart beating like the drum, my emotions creating each lyrical composition and my hands playing each instrument to wrap sound around my thoughts.

The Strangest Thing To Happen To Me by Kimber-lee

So I’m walking around my friends college campus today, and in just a couple hours I had three completely different people come up to me and say “hey aren’t you in that band?” Then they tell me that they heard me on the radio all summer, and want to know when our next show is. One of them even asked for an autograph. This is almost the strangest thing that has ever happened to me...

           

This past summer was crazy. We were doing non-stop shows, recording sessions, rehearsals, interviews, etc... When we had any down time most of the time we would be sleeping, but when we weren’t we would be hanging out with friends, taking day trips, or getting a nice tan on the beach! Seeing as I live just minutes from one of the best beaches, I would go as much as I could. So one day my friends and I are getting ready to go. We brought the snacks, sun block, blankets, towels, and most importantly a radio. 

So we’re sitting on our blanket, eating our lunch, listening to FUN107, and “Be You” comes on. We’re all excited so we turn it up as loud as we can and dance around the beach. One of my friends points over to a group of people next to us and I look over to see half of them singing along to our song. I don’t think I could ever get used to that. Let me tell you, 

THAT was the strangest thing that’s ever happened to me.

Nickelodeon Selects The Varsity Girls to Record Halo Awards Theme Song

The Varsity Girls Record A Cover Of Beyonce’s “Halo” To Be Used As Theme Song

BOSTON, MA, December 9, 2010 - The Varsity Girls, an all-female teen sensation pop group, continues to break into the national music scene this Friday when their recording of Beyonce's “Halo” will be played as the theme song for Nickelodeon's Teen Nick Halo Awards. The show, hosted by Nick Cannon and including appearances by Mariah Carey, Rosario Dawson, Wyclef Jean and Ashton Kutcher, airs December 10 at 8PM.

It is an honor for a relatively new group, such as The Varsity Girls, who came together less than a year ago, to be given the opportunity to have their music heard nationally.  It is an even greater honor to be asked to record a rendition one of Beyonce's songs.

"The girls were thrilled when they learned that Nickelodeon wanted them to be involved in the Halo Awards project. The show, which recognizes teens that have made an impact in their communities, fits with the positive messages contained in The Varsity Girls original music, including their hit sing "Be You" which they hope will serve as inspiration to kids when peer pressure and bullying is at an all-time high," said Jeff Gulko of Book Hill Sports and Entertainment, the brand marketing partner of The Varsity Girls.

Being in the spotlight is nothing new to the girls, ages 15-18. In the last few months, The Varsity Girls performed for President Barack Obama and the City of Boston Tree Lighting ceremony, received a nomination for Best Pop Artist from the prestigious Boston Music Awards and headlined a Back to School Tour sponsored by Walmart! They have also performed at a number of venues including Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium.

The Varsity Girls, who are under the management of Sure Fire Music Group, will be releasing their second single titled "Fairytale", a song the girls worked with Brooke Hogan in creating, later this month. The girls are also currently collaborating with P!NK on an upcoming project.

On our way to hair and makeup before our performance at The Boston Music Awards tonight at The Liberty Hotel. We take the stage at 7:45pm and then at 9 we will find out if we won Best Pop/R&B Artist. Come join us!!!

Varsity Girls to perform at Boston Tree Lighting
